A coenurus, the larva of Multiceps, was surgically removed from the trapezius muscle of a 62-year-old woman residing in Laredo, Texas. Except for brief visits to Mexico, the patient had spent her entire life in the continental United States. The solitary cyst, which measured 65 mm × 35 mm, was encapsulated and possessed, in addition to numerous scolices, only a few, poorly developed exogenous buds. This is the first case of coenurus infection involving the musculature of man reported from North America and the second case of coenurosis in man in the United States.
