Dr. Otto Bier served as Moderator for this Special Session, and eight experts (W. H. Taliaferro, K. N. Brown, I. G. Kagan, S. R. Smithers, J. S. Remington, E. J. L. Soulsby, P. P. Weinstein, and F. C. von Lichtenberg) presented papers. The volume records the papers presented and the ensuing discussions, including the comments of five special Discussants (I. Finger, H. C. Goodman, V. Nussenzweig, C. E. Biro, and T. Borsos) scheduled to be made after the presentation of four of the papers. A brief summary is presented in an appendix (pages 128–129). This was prepared by Dr. José Oliver-González after a review of the papers presented, since he was unable to attend the Special Session.
This session was organized especially to encourage work on the mechanisms of immunity in parasitic infections by emphasizing areas in need of more information to open new avenues of approach.
