Summary

A random sample of 19 Puerto Rican patients infected with Schistosoma mansoni were treated with a 40- to 80-mg dose of Astiban®/kg of body weight over periods ranging from 11 to 16 days. In spite of the high cure rate of 94%, the frequency and severity of the side effects do not justify the use of this massive dose in schistosomiasis chemotherapy.
