Summary

A controlled study of three methods—fluorescent antibody, Giemsa, and egg inoculation—for the detection of trachoma virus in human conjunctival scrapings is presented. The morphology of trachoma inclusions as shown by specific immunofluorescence is described. Evidence for the superiority of the fluorescent antibody method to Giemsa is discussed. Field and laboratory applications of this method are suggested.
