This book is the result of “a series of researches on the biology, pathology and diagnosis of hydatid disease which. … have been carried on at the Hall Institute during the past five years.” The disease is a very important one in southeastern Australia and clinical material for the study was abundant.
The following indicates the subject matter of the book: There is a brief historical summary of the development of our knowledge of the disease, a chapter on The Etiology and Prophylaxis with Reference to Australian Conditions, and a third chapter on Geographical Distribution. Chapters IV, V, and VI, some forty pages, constitute an admirable presentation of the development of the parasite in the intermediate host and dealing with this phase, there are about thirty-five excellent original illustrations. Then follow three chapters: General Pathology, Special Diagnostic Methods and Hydatid Anaphylaxis.
