As stated in the preface, this book is a development of the bulletin published in 1921 entitled “Diagnosis of protozoa and worms parasitic in man.” There has been a revision and in some cases a rewriting of some of the topics. A section on “Arthropods of medical importance” has been added. The aim of the authors has been to furnish “a brief textbook or Outlines of Medical Zoology for the use of public health officers, students and physicians (especially those practicing in tropical or semi-tropical countries).”
The authors invite suggestions for the improvement of the textbook and the reviewer ventures to make some.
Under the topic of malaria, the asexual and sexual cycles of the parasites are given in an excellently concise survey occupying seven pages. But the “laboratory and field diagnosis” suffers in treatment by comparison. And we would expect a word or two on the difficulties and pitfalls of the microscopical interpretation of the stained blood films.
