Detailed study of mouse muscle experimentally infected with Arisona Trypanosoma cruzi reveals two types of development from the leishmaniform to the trypanosome stage; directly, by simple elongation, or indirectly, by flattening of the rounded leishmaniform body to form a transition stage whose cytosome partially separates and untwists, resulting in the elongate trypanoform parasite.
