Summary

  1. 1. In a cholera epidemic, 10 patients were given sulfadiazine in addition to saline infusions with 10 other patients without sulfadiazine treatment as control.
  2. 2. The average duration of diarrhea of the sulfadiazine-treated patients (4.6 days) is shorter than that of the controls (7.1 days).
  3. 3. One case of lobar pneumonia resulting in death and one case of parotitis occurred among the patients without sulfadiazine therapy.
  4. 4. Oral administration of fluid and alkalies in the treatment of cholera has been emphasized.
