Summary

  1. 1. A family of six, resident in New York City, with four members infected with Endamoeba histolytica is presented.
  2. 2. It is probable that the infection was acquired by one parent outside the city and transmitted to the children.
  3. 3. This family infection occurring under good living conditions emphasizes the importance of searching for and adequately treating carriers of Endamoeba histolytica.
  4. 4. A more detailed study of familial amebiasis is being carried out and will be reported subsequently.
