This large work upon laboratory technic, excellently printed and illustrated, appears from the title to be a collection of standard methods approved by The American Society of Clinical Pathologists. However, upon reading the Preface it is discovered that the authors have selected the methods described, the Society entering into the selection only in that each description of a method has been approved by at least five members. It will thus be seen that the title “Approved Laboratory Technic” is somewhat misleading and really does not mean that the Society, as a whole, has approved the methods described. The technic of the methods has been approved by Committees of the Society but the Society has not approved or recommended any of the methods presented, and this is explained in a “Note” on page 9. The aim of the authors has been to establish standard methods for the performance of diagnostic laboratory procedures.
