This book, translated from German into English, is timely since there is presently a great deal of interest in the Philippines. It is essentially a review of published reports dating back to the early 1900s. None of the earlier reviews on parasitic diseases in the Philippines has covered human helminthic infections in such detail.
The text has an introduction, conclusions, appendix, and chapters on insect-transmitted, water-, food-, and soil-borne helminthiasis. There are 83 figures, 40 tables, 885 references. Three maps show the regions and provinces of the Philippines and the geographic distribution of filariasis and schistosomiasis. Tables are located on the backs of the maps listing prevalence data obtained from surveys on these and the soil-transmitted helminths.
The introduction presents the administrative or political divisions of the Philippines, demographic, geographic, and climatic conditions, and major agricultural products of the region.
