In this fifth edition Beaver and Jung have consigned the revision of most of the chapters to Department of Parasitology colleagues at Tulane University. The joint authors have made a concerted effort to reduce the bulk of the book by a combination of judicious pruning of unnecessary phraseology and the elimination of passages that appear to be mainly of historical interest. Nonpathogenic or minor parasites have been relegated to smaller type; figures have been reduced in size in many instances; and reference lists have been reduced in length and limited to recent sources. As a result the pagination has been reduced from 479 to 281, although the number of figures has increased from 201 to 235. The malaria color plates have been retained from the previous edition. The line drawings and photographs are all of excellent quality.
The basic format of the previous edition has been retained.
