In the preface of this book the editors (and Coordinating Editor C. F. Chapman) state that a panel of the Association of American Medical Colleges ā€œrecommends limiting the amount of factual data the students are expected to commit to memory and replacing such data with information.ā€ Therefore, the editors have ā€œcut down on the content of the book by eliminating historical or tangential materialsā€ while ā€œemphasizing the information needed for the effective treatment of patients with virological diseases.ā€ It cannot be the place of a book review to argue, pro or con, such a position. However, the effects of this philosophy are obvious here. Virology in Medicine contains superb chapters, a glossary and an index.
