This is the fourth volume in a series entitled Current Clinical Topics in Infectious Diseases. Like its predecessors, it is excellent. Practitioners from all areas of medical practice will find among the 16 chapters one or more of particular interest to them.
Nelson, in a chapter called “A Critical Review of the Role of Oral Antibiotics in the Management of Hematogenous Osteomyelitis,” gives a detailed and thoughtful discussion of his own experience of some 400 cases, and reviews all of the published series of others. Useful tables clarify the text.
“When Can the Infected Hospital Employee Return to Work?” includes constructive data relevant to the employee with active pulmonary tuberculosis, with streptococcal or staphylococcal infections, with Salmonella or Shigella infections, viral hepatitis or herpes simplex.
The chapter by Munford on “Orbital Infections” is particularly well illustrated with anatomical drawings of the area, explaining the pathogenesis of these infections.
