This World Health Organization booklet updates and modifies the previous edition which, in 1981, was expanded from a simple tabulation of vaccination requirements to include a broad range of health-related infor mation and recommendations to travelers. In preparing the 1982 edition, the WHO has considered comments from users of the earlier edition and succeeded in making the publication even more valuable as a reference document for those concerned with emporiatrics—the medical specialty which deals with the health of travelers.

The booklet is logically organized, convenient in size and format, and the information contained is generally current and accurate. The indications for and limitations of cholera and yellow fever vaccines are nicely presented, and appropriate attention is given to the inappropriate requirement by Chad that all entering travelers over 1 year of age possess a smallpox vaccination certificate.
