This is the second of two volumes intended to provide an overview of toxicology for scientists in other fields. Subjects covered are pesticides, radiation, venoms, and forensic toxicology. The volume ends with a sound although somewhat pedantic chapter on principles of toxicology by Gabriel Plaa; it might have served better as an Introduction. Donald Morgan contributes a readable and balanced review of pesticides, their actions, uses, limitations and hazards. This chapter should be of special interest to physicians and other health workers in the tropics where the need for pesticides is great but their hazards are often poorly understood and their use in adequately regulated. The chapter on radiation toxicology by W. D. Bloomer and S. J. Adelstein reviews radiation sources and the interaction of radiation with matter in general and living cells in particular.
