The group of well-known infectious disease experts who collaborated on this book under the leadership of Dr. Jay Sanford have put together a pleasing 400-page volume, with wide margins, easy to read and relatively light to hold. The initial chapters on Pathogenic Mechanisms include half a dozen excellent chapters on Fever, Shock, Host-Parasite Relationships, Metabolic Response to Infection. The next group of chapters, entitled Clinical Approach to Common Symptom Complexes, include Fever and Jaundice, Fever and Skin Rash, Fever Without Localizing Signs, Infectious Complications of Addiction, and other topics. This whole division is particularly useful and particularly well done. There follow the divisions on Viral and Mycoplasmal Infections, on Diseases Due to Rickettsiae, to Aerobic Bacteria, and others, with an orderly array of appropriate diseases discussed under each heading, including fungal and parasitic infections, finishing up with Diseases Due to Arthropods, Leeches and Venom.
