Milk Diet and Human Malaria

The effects of a whole-milk diet, and of a normal diet supplemented with yeast known to be a rich source of p-aminobenzoic acid, were tested in nine African children infected with P. falciparum or P. malariae or with both species. The results demonstrate that within the conditions of the experiment neither a milk diet, nor the addition of yeast to a normal diet, influence the malaria parasite density or the clinical manifestations of human malaria. These findings are at variance with those reported by investigators working with malaria species infecting rats and monkeys.
