Antigenic group: Marburg.

Original source: Isolated by S. R. Pattyn, E. T. W. Bowen, and P. A. Webb from serum of adult female human being manifesting severe, prostrating, febrile illness with hemorrhagic signs and rash.Disease originally contractedin Yambuku, Zaire, Lat. 2°45'N, Long. 22°10'E, and case transported to mission hospital in Kinshasa, Zaire. Habitat: Undulating tropical rain forest, 400 m altitude. Storage: Frozen at -60°C.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Serum inoculated ip into guinea pigs and into Vero cell cultures on 2-10 October 1976.

Validity of isolation: Virus reisolated.
