Many who have been involved in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases are unquestionably acquainted with this very useful short text first published in 1958 under the title “Diagnostic Medical Parasitology.”
In the fourth edition a number of recently described laboratory diagnostic techniques have been added. Those of an immunologic nature are discussed in a separate chapter in which the merits of the tests and significant titers are presented in tabular form.
In Chapter 2 entitled “Parasites, Parasitism and Host Relations” new information on the distribution and prevalence of parasitic infections has been included, this is compiled into six tables for quick reference.
Other areas of general updating include descriptions of some recently described entities such as Angiostrongylus costaricensis, expanded coverage of the biology of individual parasites, epidemiology and treatment of parasitic diseases including pediatric dosages where practicable.
