The sleeping-time induced by sodium pentobarbital is greatly increased in mice experimentally infected with Schistosoma mansoni. The degree of hypnosis is affected by the female worm burden, probably because the hepatic lesions produced by schistosome eggs cause slow metabolization of anesthetics.
