Two hundred children with proved typhoid fever were studied. One hundred were treated with amoxycillin and the results were compared with those of 100 treated with chloramphenicol. The clinical and bacteriological response to amoxycillin was satisfactory. No adverse reactions were encountered in this study. This therapeutic trial indicates that amoxycillin is a drug worthy of further evaluation in the treatment of typhoid fever.
