Electron dense deposits in mesangial areas and on the glomerular basement membrane, plus the presence of immunoglobulin (IgG) in the same locations, were observed in the kidneys of mice heavily infected with Schistosoma mansoni. When examined by light microscopy, these kidneys were within normal limits. It thus seems that with appropriate techniques the mouse model will prove useful for future studies on the problem of renal involvement in schistosomiasis.
