This book is one of a series of ecologic studies of indigenous populations and their dietary habits prepared to assist those organizations, civil or military, that are concerned in any way with the feeding of people. The research was done in cooperation with the U. S. Army Natick (Mass.) Laboratories. The sources of information listed in the bibliographies for each chapter include various F.A.O. publications, reports of the Economic Research Service and the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the surveys of the Interdepartmental Committee on Nutrition for National Defense, publications of the governmental agencies of the country under consideration, books, and articles from journals and newspapers. The results of the study are presented country by country according to a logical and complete format. The first section of each chapter deals with background information such as geography, climate, agricultural policies and foreign aid.
