The results of a trial of Ciba 32,644-Ba in a dosage of 1 to 1.5 grams daily for 10 days in amebic dysentery and amebic liver abscess are reported. Of 30 patients with amebic dysentery, cure was obtained in 23 and disappearance of Entamoeba histolytica occurred in a further 4 patients. Of 15 patients with amebic liver abscess all were apparently cured.

The ideal amebicide should be effective against E. histolytica in the lumen of the bowel, in the bowel wall and systemically in the liver. Though combinations of other drugs are satisfactory, Ciba 32,644-Ba appears capable of all the actions required.
