Summary

Two preparations of bephenium hydroxynaphthoate were compared in the treatment of 140 persons with Ancylostoma duodenale and Ascaris lumbricoides infections. A single dose of 2.5 g (base) gave excellent results against both parasites.

Against A. duodenale a single dose of 1.25 g (base) as pellets gave a high cure rate, while 0.625 g (base) produced considerable reductions in egg counts.

Results against A. lumbricoides indicated that the minimum effective single dose lay between 1.25 g and 1.75 g (base).

Both preparations were easy to administer and well tolerated.
