Penetrance of the Gene for Dieldrin Resistance in Anopheles Albimanus Wiedemann

Selection of successive generations of a dieldrin resistant strain of Anopheles albimanus by exposure to dieldrin-impregnated papers resulted in a rapid increase in frequency of the dominant gene for resistance. This gene is estimated to be 100 percent penetrant in the heterozygous and homozygous resistant mosquitoes. In addition to the single dominant gene, there appeared to be also a selection for ancillary genes conferring additional resistance. There was no loss in the frequency of the single dominant gene for resistance in the parent colony after about 3 years of laboratory rearing without selection pressure.
