Pieces of germinal membrane from primary hydatid cysts did not develop into secondary cysts following transfer to immature mice, rabbits and sheep using the cerebral intraventricular and intraperitoneal routes. Scolices appeared to be the only source of secondary cysts. All secondary cysts were sterile. Non-viable laminated cuticle was more strongly eosinophilic than viable cuticle.
