A technique in which immune serum is incorporated in the agar overlay of the plaque test was used to identify members of the equine encephalitis virus group. This test allows isolation and identification of a virus in a single process taking a relatively short time.
A simple linear relationship was found between serum dilution and plaque inhibition, and a serum with a neutralization index of only 1.4 was sufficient to give clear cut results.
