Hagan and Bruner continue to expand and improve the text of the Infectious Diseases of Domestic Animals in its fourth edition. In its earlier editions it has long been considered the outstanding book in the field of infectious diseases as to their etiology, diagnosis, and biologic therapy. The fourth edition lives up to the previous editions. The authors have rewritten a great many chapters and enlarged the virus part to include the newer etiological concepts of the viral diseases. They point out that the contents of the book were assembled in early 1960 and that the reader should bear this in mind if any statements are not in accord with changes that have occurred since that time.
The book is organized in seven parts which allows the student and those consulting it to find specific subjects with ease. The parts cover a wide range e.g., the mechanisms of infection and resistance, chemotherapy, pathogenic bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and the viruses.
