As indicated in the preface, this compendium of laboratory technics is intended for and has been well received by “medical students, physicians, teachers, clinical pathologists and medical technicians” since the first (1931) edition. Over 150 pages of text, illustrations and color plates have been added since 1945. The many who have known this book will welcome this well revised edition.

This book, the “principles and technics” of medical laboratory methods, relegates clinical interpretation to a separate volume. The sections on syphilis serology, in which each of ten recognized methods is detailed completely, from antigen preparation to the reading of the test, are outstanding. The clinical pathologic methods (examination of the blood, urine, sputum, stomach contents, feces, and puncture fluids) and the sections on culture media and bacteriology have likewise been brought up to date.
