Effective July 1, 2008, the journal is allowing authors the option of making their manuscripts freely available online immediately upon publication for an additional fee. Authors may elect to pay a flat fee of $2,500 instead of the usual page charges. This fee does not include the additional charges for color figures, which must be paid regardless of whether authors choose the Open Access option. Authors who choose to pay the usual page charges instead of the Open Access fee must honor the journal's twelve-month embargo policy on current content and not deposit their paper in a public repository without permission from the cbs15{at}case.edu This policy applies only to papers published in the July 2008 issue or later. Authors may elect this option on the page charge form when they receive their galley proofs, or they may notify the cbs15{at}case.edu of their decision. The NIH rule states that " ... all investigators funded by the NIH [shall] submit or have submitted for them to the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed Central an electronic version of their final, peer- reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication ..." If an author cannot afford to pay the journal's Open Access fee, the author can desposit the published paper in PubMed Central within 12 months after the publication date and still comply with the NIH rule. We respectfully request that authors honor this 12 month period and not deposit the paper sooner unless they have paid the journal's Open Access fee.
