The world of malaria research and discovery is evolving at a remarkable pace. We now know more about the genome, the mechanism of drug resistance, and the pathophysiology of cerebral malaria than could have been reasonably expected just a few years ago. The major challenge in malaria is the translation of this amassing knowledge to improving our management of malaria infection and illness by the development of sustaining, effective programs that control the public health burden of malaria. Geoff Pasvol has edited this volume to update clinicians on the science of malaria, a formidable undertaking.

The contributing authors represent an excellent array of authorities in various aspects of malaria, and, importantly, include several younger workers in the field, bringing new perspectives to the presentations.
