Abstract

This issue presents the text of Dr. Donald Krogstad's Presidential Address, which was delivered at the 41st annual meeting of the Society in Seattle. There is a somewhat different atmosphere surrounding this event this year than has been the case in the past. As all who attended the meetings in Seattle will know, and as readers will quickly see, Don has not provided a farewell address but rather an interim report on a series of activities that will continue to influence Society priorities and decision-making well into the future. At the retreat in February 1992 the Council, augmented by individuals with recognized expertise in selected areas, developed and articulated a new sense of responsibility of the part of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene with regards to the current status and future of international health.
