To the Editor:

We deeply appreciate the comments of David A. Warrell about the terminology of the species of dark green pit viper mentioned in our recent paper. In Thailand, the identification of snake species has relied on that used by the Science Division, Thai Red Cross Society, Bangkok, Thailand. At the time our manuscript was submitted, the dark green pit viper was recognized as . Recently it was agreed that this dark green pit viper should be called (P. Jintakune, Science Division, Thai Red Cross Society, Bangkok, Thailand, personal communication).

In Thailand, green pit vipers are common. Two kinds are commonly found in the Bangkok area: one is a dark green colored pit viper with a blue-green belly and the other, , is a lighter green with a yellow-green belly. These snakes are very easy to recognize and are well known to most Thai people.
