In this third edition of , W.H. Jopling has retained the basic features of his excellent second edition, increasing the size by only six pages, and has added information needed to reflect the changes in the art of leprosy that have occurred since the second edition was published. There are 17 illustrations, black and white photographs and diagrams. Twenty beautifully reproduced color plates illustrate clinical and histologic features of leprosy.

The author's career has been devoted to the study and care of leprosy patients who came to Great Britain from countries where leprosy was endemic (the last indigenous case was recorded in 1798). As a clinical leprologist, Dr. Jopling has had close association with Dr. D. S. Ridley with whom he collaborated in developing the now internationally renowned Ridley-Jopling classification of leprosy according to immunity.

The author writes authoritatively, frequently citing from his own experience.
