The eighteen chapters of this book are based on the proceedings of the conference on Immunomodulation by Bacteria and Their Products, held 18–20 November 1979, in Tampa, Florida.

Most chapters share a common structure, presenting first a brief review of the specific area dealt with and addressing it later on in terms of research carried out at the laboratory(ies) of the authors of each chapter. This makes the content of the book attractive to individuals interested in either an overview of the general subject or the more recent developments in immunomodulation by bacteria and their products. The book should also appeal to workers in this field who wish to familiarize themselves with aspects of immunomodulation distinct from those to which they direct their own efforts. Considered in the various chapters are a wide variety of bacterium-derived materials possessing the ability to regulate or affect immunological reactions.
