This book is a comprehensive treatise on the diagnosis and surgical managment of hydatid disease. The author is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Surgery, American University of Beirut. The book, well illustrated, describes the life cycles of spp., the pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of hydatid disease, its diagnosis, surgical management, and prevention. The author draws upon a vast personal experience and compares and contrasts his own and others' methods of surgical management of hydatid cysts of the liver, lungs, and other organ localizations. The book contains a good discussion of the use of chemical scolicidal agents to prevent dissemination and secondary hydatidosis. Included in the volume are chapters on radiological and immunological diagnosis by Ghassan K. Rizk and Robert Matossian, who are recognized authorities in their respective fields. The book should be available in medical libraries as an up-to-date source of information for physicans confronted with this clinical problem.
