Vesicular Stomatitis group.

Isolated by Claudio de Moraes Andrade at Recife, Brazil from tongue epithelium of mule showing vesicular lesions of tongue and feet. Scrapings of tongue lesions collected in July 1964 at Alagoas, Brazil, Lat. 9°S,Long. 36° W. Moist tropical lowland encompassing sugar plantation. Stored in glycerin at -20°C until tested.

Newborn mice inoculated ip on 27 July 1964.

It is unknown whether reisolation was attempted or whether it was successful or not.

Bullet-shaped. Single stranded RNA. Sensitive to chloroform. Not tested for HA activity.
