Phlebotomus fever (PHL).

Isolated by Belem Virus Laboratory from whole blood of apparently well young male collected on 19 April 1966 in Utinga forest, Lat. 1°28'S,Long. 48°27'W. Floor of watershed forest. Frozen at -60°C.

Blood inoculated ic into infant mice on 20 April 1966.

Reisolation not tried and presence of homologous antibody in source animal not tested. However, four more strains isolated from captured in the same area.

No data. No data. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:2 ether; control titer 10, after-treatment titer 10. Sensitive to 1:1,000 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 10, after-treatment titer 10. Hemagglutinin detected using infected suckling mouse brains extracted with sucrose-acetone, treated with protamine sulfate, and tested with goose erythrocytes at pH 5.8 through 6.2 and at room temperature. Optimum pH was 6.0.
