Isolated by J. P. Digoutte and M. Germain at Institut Pasteur, Bangui, from pooled brain, liver, spleen, and heart tissues of adult female trapped alive on 10 January 1972 in Botambi, Central African Republic, Lat. 4°12'N, Long. 18°30'E. Clearing in equatorial moist forest, at site of banana plantation. Stored in electrical deep freezer at -75°C.

Tissues ground in Hanks' balanced salt solution containing bovine albumin and antibiotics. Suspension inoculated 0.02 ml ic, ip, and sc into 1-day-old mice. Validity of isolation: Virus not reisolated but first virus of this type in laboratory.
