Isolated by J. C. Jacobi and M. Germain at Institut Pasteur, Bangui, from brain,liver,and heart pool of adult African Thrush (Turduslibonyanus)collected by net on 8 October 1971 at M'Boko, Central African Republic, Lat.4°22'N,Long. 18°41'E. Forest-savannah mosaic near Oubangui river. Frozen at -75°C.

Tissue pool suspension prepared in Hanks' solution containing bovine albumin and antibiotics. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic,ip,and scinto1-day-oldmiceon 5 November 1971.

Not reisolated, but first virus of this type in laboratory.

Filterable through Millipore 220 nm. No data. Sensitive to chloroform; control titer 10,after-treatment titer <10. No hemagglutinin detected using infected suckling mouse brain extracted with sucroseacetone and tested with goose erythrocytes at pH 5.7 through 6.6, and at room temperature.
