Isolated by J. P. Digoutte and F. X. Pajot at Institut Pasteur, Bangui, from pool of mixed adult female mosquitoes collected from human bait on 31 March 1966 at Bagaza, Central African Republic, Lat. 4°53'N, Long. 18°E. Savannah with forest gallery. Frozen in Revco at -75°C.

Mosquitoes ground in Hanks' balanced salt solution containing 0.75% bovine albumin. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic and ip in 1-day-old mice on 28 July 1966.

Not reisolated but first virus of this type in laboratory.

Filtered through Millipore 220 nm. No data. Sensitive to 50% ether; control titer 10, after-treatment titer 10.Sensitive to 0.02% sodium deoxycholate; control titer 10, after-treatment titer 10. Antigenic: Hemagglutinin detected using suckling mouse brain extracted with sucrose-acetone and tested with goose erythrocytes at pH 6.0 through 7.0. Optimal pH 6.4 and temperature 37°C.
