Abstract

Introduction

The International Catalogue of Arboviruses Including Certain Other Viruses of Vertebrates serves as a register of data on the occurrence and characteristics of presumed or provisional arthropod-borne viruses. As the last part of its name implies, the Catalogue also contains information on certain other animal viruses, mainly arenaviruses and other vertebrate-associated viruses, which are not biologically transmitted by arthropods but have been encountered by arbovirologists in the course of their laboratory or field investigations. This catalogue is a loose-leaf working document which is supplied to about 160 collaborators in the world's leading arbovirus laboratories in over 50 countries. To assure currency of the data contained, new or revised registrations and updated information are sent to these Catalogue collaborators on a quarterly basis. The Subcommittee on Information Exchange of the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV) is responsible for maintaining Catalogue operations and other related activities.
