This relatively brief publication reviews the literature related to human health and the helminth parasites of marine animals. Following the Introduction and sections on General Account, Man as Host, and Zoonoses, specific parasites of marine animals that may infect man are discussed under the headings of Cestoda, Digenea, and Nematoda. Additional sections include: Physiology, Behavior, Pathology and Immunology; Host-parasite Relationships; Marine Mammals; Host-specificity; and Marine Products as Food. Over 300 papers are listed as references. The authors have done a commendable job of reviewing a subject that has received considerable attention during the past 15 yr and one in which interest seems to be increasing. Medical and veterinary parasitologists, marine biologists, and health workers will find this publication a valuable source of information.
