Abstract

Abstract

A controlled clinical trial with three amebicidal regimens was undertaken in the treatment of amebic liver abscess. Twenty patients in each of three groups received either niridazole, metronidazole, or emetine hydrochloride combined with chloroquine. Niridazole was found to produce toxic reactions. Metronidazole was ineffective in seven patients and emetine combined with chloroquine was ineffective in one patient.
