Abstract

Abstract

The carrier rate of Australia antigen among northern Nigerians (6 out of 61, 9.8%) was found to be far greater than that of non-Nigerians living in the same area (0 out of 117). It is unlikely that arthropod-borne infection with serum hepatitis is important in maintaining the high carrier rate among the indigenous population, although it may contribute to the high incidence of infective hepatitis among expatriates.
