Abstract

Five patients with actinomycetoma were treated with Septrin® (sulphamethoxazole plus trimethoprim). Complete cure was obtained in each patient in a period of treatment ranging from 8 to 21.5 months. Treatment was not without side effects. A marked decrease in white blood cells and hemoglobin was noticed in one case and decreased white cells alone in another. Treatment was started in hospital but completed on an out-patient basis. No signs of recurrence have been seen since treatment was stopped. The causative agents involved were , and .
