To the Editor

I wish to add the following information to our paper “Topical diethylcarbamazine in the treatment of ocular onchocerciasis” ( 232–233), which appears in this issue.

After the paper was submitted for publication, a trial among human beings was conducted in Malawi by Dr. I. Ben-Sira from Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem. Ten patients, all of whom had microfilariae in the anterior chamber of both eyes, were administered 5% Hetrazan® drops to one eye four times daily for 2 weeks. The microfilariae disappeared in 24 to 48 hours in the treated eye and reappeared only 3 days after the treatment was discontinued.
