Isolated by G. Justines at Middle America Research Unit from brain of infant laboratory white mouse exposed 7 feet above ground in study area at Barriada La Concepcioń in Juan Diaz, Panamá, Republic of Panamá, Lat. 9° 02′ N, Long. 79° 27′ W. Sentinel mouse collected 12 September 1962 after 48 hours exposure. Open coastal lowland, grass and bush vegetation. In sentinel mouse exposed in nature.

Brain from sentinel mouse showing convulsion and paralysis ground in 25% normal rabbit serum in phosphate-buffered saline pH 7.2. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic in 2-day-old mouse on 26 September 1962.

Virus reisolated.

No data. RNA virus. Sensitive to 1:100 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 10, after-treatment titer <10.
